A New Era in Orthopedic Care
Comes to the South Shore

A sports enthusiast who loves to compete…
An avid walker or runner with miles to cover…
A parent or grandparent with children to carry…
A backyard gardener with flowers to plant…
Or anyone who uses a computer regularly.
No matter who you are, how you make your living or what you enjoy doing, problems with your bones, joints, muscles or spine can complicate your life…causing you pain, limiting your abilities and even stopping you in your tracks.
Fortunately, with the opening of South Shore Hospital’s ambulatory Center for Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine in Hingham, you now have nearby access to a new level of musculoskeletal care. Located at 2 Pond Park Road, Hingham at Exit 15, Derby Street off Route 3, the new outpatient facility is dedicated to addressing the pain and functional limitations that often come with orthopedic, spine or sports-related conditions.
South Shore Hospital and South Shore Orthopedics, LLC worked collaboratively to envision and develop a facility where patients and families have seamless and convenient access to a full range of outpatient services to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions – all under one roof. The Center brings together an experienced team of orthopedic, surgical, rehabilitation, pain management and diagnostic imaging experts specializing in the treatment of a broad range of bone, joint and muscle conditions.
Having a full range of orthopedic services available in a single facility means you do not have to drive between locations to see different doctors or for the services needed to treat your condition. At the ambulatory Center for Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine, your care takes place in one building – doctor visits, testing, treatment, outpatient surgery and follow-up.
During one stop at the Center, you may visit with a physician, consult with other specialists, get a CT scan or MRI, have a blood test, and then check in again with the first physician before you leave. If outpatient surgery is deemed necessary, it will take place in the same building as will many pain management treatments and rehabilitation therapies. The close proximity of doctors and services also facilitates communication among all your care providers.
The Center for Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine currently occupies two floors, with a third floor scheduled to open in Spring 2012. South Shore Orthopedics has relocated its offices to the facility’s first floor, which also houses South Shore Hospital’s diagnostic imaging services, including CT, MRI and ultrasound, as well as convenient laboratory services.
The Outpatient Surgical Center occupies most of the second floor of the new facility. It features a pre-surgical evaluation area, four operating suites, a perioperative unit with 18 beds for patient care prior to and after surgery, as well as a hospitality area for patients and families. A central processing department, where surgical equipment and instruments are sterilized and surgical kits prepared, is adjacent to the operating rooms.
South Shore Hospital’s pain management program has relocated from the hospital’s main campus to the new facility’s second floor. The location features pre-treatment and recovery areas, as well as two treatment rooms with the high-tech imaging equipment needed for certain pain management interventions. The building’s third floor will soon offer outpatient physical and occupational therapy, a Spine Center, clinical offices, a concussion management program, conference center, as well as South Shore NeuroSpine, a group of neurosurgeons specializing in back and spine care.
The Center for Orthopedics, Spine and Sports Medicine is an essential part of South Shore Hospital’s nationally-recognized approach to orthopedic care. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association has designated South Shore Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Hip and Knee Replacement. The hospital’s orthopedic program also has earned high-performance marks in U.S. News & World Report’s national hospital rankings, helping to place South Shore Hospital among the Best Regional Hospitals in the Boston area. In addition to services found at the new facility, the hospital’s comprehensive orthopedic program also includes inpatient care, home health care and the only Level II trauma program in Southeastern Massachusetts.
