Caffé Tosca
Hingham’s hot spot
~ By Stanley Blackmur
Being a South Shore lifer and more specifically a Hingham townie, I often talk to old Hingham friends who have gone on to live in other areas of the country and they often pose the typical questions, such as who do you see etc. However, one topic that comes up frequently is where do you go to eat?
Naturally my first words are Tosca, Stars and Caffé Tosca. Caffé Tosca? Where is that? Quinn’s I respond, the gas station and bike shop? Yes that the one!
Eatwell’s third Hingham location has gone through a few phases since they bought the property from the Quinn Family but for the last eight years has been Caffé Tosca. Originally this location was Fire King Baking Company, Casa del Rey and now the neighborhood bistro: Caffé Tosca. Chris Jule is the GM at Caffé Tosca and runs a well-oiled machine.
As I have said in previous articles, Chris is constantly on the go making sure that everyone inside the restaurant or out on the Patio in the summer months is having a pleasurable experience. It appears as though he is on roller skates! Chris has been with Eatwell since 1999 in various capacities throughout the company.
Chris has a great front end staff who compliment his hard work ethic. Chris also has Chef Jose Filho who recently developed a new menu which is OUTSTANDING. To quote the Caffé Tosca website” As Tosca continues to break new ground in the national culinary landscape, Caffé Tosca will happily remain rooted in the basics, making it Tosca’s version of comfort food, at comfort food prices. We believe the sister restaurants will inspire each other- something you try here may migrate across North Street. Each restaurant offers unique experiences to our guests, but they adhere to the same principles of excellent food, exceptional value, and superb service.” We hope that you agree.
Chris is quick to note that it is the regular diners that support the three restaurants that make them special, as well as great locations and of course the great food. Chris’s memorable moment was when a server accidentally dropped two consecutive trays of Margaritas on the same party! Wow! Chris’ favorite current menu item is the grilled scallops and veal milanese.
Whether at the bar or at a table, with the delicious new menu and the incredible service, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!
