The RooBar, which has been open since 2006 and is located in historic Cordage Park in North Plymouth, has received a number of accolades such as the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in Wine Spectator Magazine, has been featured on UPN 38’s “The Phantom Gourmet” and NECN’s “Dining out with Billy Costa” as well as written up in numerous publications. The RooBar has certainly made a splash in Plymouth that reaches beyond the local community—and rightfully so. The carefully designed menu, delicious cocktails, extensive wine and beer selection combined with an amazing atmosphere truly make for a wonderful experience whether you are dining out, socializing in the lounge or hosting a function.
The RooBar is a family-owned business run by husband and wife team Mike Clinton and Kristin Mackin. They’ve combined over thirty years experience to breathe new life into a location and restaurant that they fell in love with and have been running the restaurant together since June 2012—and they have been enormously successful. Mike, co-owner and general manager says, “This is a restaurant where you can stop in and get a great pizza and a draft beer or where you can have a filet mignon and a bottle of pinot noir. We’re versatile and we want our clientele to be pleased every time they come so consistency and ambiance is of the utmost importance.” The atmosphere at The RooBar is a perfect marriage of funky and sophisticated, a skillfully achieved balance of comfort and class. Gorgeous glass light fixtures hang from the ceiling in the bar and lounge area where there is live acoustic entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings and the Pizza Bar, which is adjacent to the dining room, is beautifully highlighted by original exposed brick walls.
The menu is a perfect balance of modern day twists on traditional entrees made with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Start off with a cup of the outstanding Clam Chowder; a classic New England favorite, an order of Pesto Arancinis; creamy pesto risotto balls encrusted with panko crumbs, fried golden and served with a roasted red pepper dipping sauce or an appetizer of Tuna Sashimi; sesame encrusted tuna, seared and served rare with wasabi and pickled ginger. Palette-pleasing menu items such as the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad, the Crunchy Eggplant Salad and The Wedge Salad provide great options for a lighter fare. Heartier options such as the Coffee Braised Short Ribs; tender coffee and wine braised short rib with sautéed Swiss Chardand mushrooms over creamy Parmesan polenta topped with a red wine demi glaze, and the Asian Inspired Sole; a lightly battered and pan fried sole served over fresh shrimp stir fried rice with peppers, snow peas, ginger, garlic and finished with a lemon butter sauce and sweet soy drizzle, will have you planning your next night out before you finish half your meal.
The martini and cocktail list is impressive and includes a breadth of options featuring the finest of liquors. Enjoy the sophisticated and simultaneously fun atmosphere while sipping on a St. Germain Cocktail, a Key Lime Martini, or a Pomegranate Martini. The premium selections on the wine list at the RooBar are available by the bottle and have been personally selected as exceptional values. Select varieties of both red, white and sparkling wines such as pinot noir, merlot, zinfandel, Riesling, pinot grigio and chardonnay are all offered by either the glass or the bottle. The bar also boasts an extensive offering of bottled beers as well as draft beers—so, as you can see, there is something here that appeals to everyone’s tastes.
The RooBar is a great venue to host your next function—whether that’s a sit-down dinner party or a festive anniversary, engagement or birthday event. The function menu at the RooBar is extensive and features a variety of exquisite items in a customizable format ranging from passed or stationary hors d’oeuvres for a cocktail party to plated dinners for sit-down dinner functions. The dining room offers a very flexible space and can be arranged in a variety of ways to accommodate anywhere from 30 to 100 people for whatever sort of event you have in mind for your next special occasion.
So stop into The RooBar if you haven’t already and check it out. Sit at the bar and have a drink and an appetizer, bring the family for a sit-down dinner, stop in for happy hour and live entertainment or have a romantic date night with your significant other. You can even pull a stool up to the pizza bar, order take-out, and enjoy a beer while you watch the pastry chef make your pizza in front of your eyes and create tantalizing desserts. Between the great atmosphere and the delicious food offerings, I can’t think of one reason you shouldn’t be in the car and on your way already!
