MARSH
“I’ve always wanted to improve on the idea of living well. In moderation, wine is good for you – mentally, physically, and spiritually”
–Robert Mondavi
Stop the world! Shut off your Iphones and get your wine grove-on because Steve Marsh of Marsh Liquors in Norwell is up to it again. Yes, he’s having another wine tasting, and I strongly advise you to attend. Now, save these dates: November 1, and December 1, 2012 between 4 pm and 8pm. Trust me when I tell you that this is a tremendous opportunity to taste some of the most gorgeous tasting wines in today’s market because, simply put, Marsh chooses the absolute best wines he can find and sincerely encourages everyone to experience each wine on their own terms. But fear not, there is no pretense here because Marsh magically sets a relaxing atmosphere full of sharing, learning, and plenty of good cheer, and the accompanying food is over-the-top divine.
LOVE
“Wine is constant proof that God loves us and loves to see us happy”
–Benjamin Franklin
Perhaps one of the best components of these tastings are the wine professionals who thoroughly explain the variety of grapes used and how the wine is produced, which makes for a captivating journey into the wonderful and intriguing world of wine. And these wine tastings are for everyone to enjoy; from the wine novice who has a desire to learn about wine to the aficionado who is stocking their wine cellar. You’ll see people there who are seeking the ideal wine gift, foodies who want to find the perfect wine for their dinner parties and those folks who simply want to imbibe wine for pure pleasure. Whatever the reason, all are welcomed, embraced and there is plenty of enjoyment and wine for all. Once there, I recommend you take a deep breath, start slow, taste some wine, take a break, eat some good food, start again, mingle, but make sure you attempt to taste every wine featured. If you like, bring paper and pen and take notes; after all, it’s literally a free course in wine. However, if that sounds too much like academia, ditch the school supplies and just bring your passion and enthusiasm or bring whatever feels right to you (but please keep your parrot at home) and know your wine grove will be fully nurtured and loved.
WINE
“God made water, but man made wine”
–Victor Hugo
Marsh’s spring 2012 wine tasting was truly spectacular so naturally when I was told about these two upcoming tastings I wanted to immediately know Marsh’s choices. Patience not being my greatest virtue (although wine drinking certainly is!), I eagerly did some research and was led to Marsh’s wine rep, Leslie Marino, who was unmistakably excited when I called. This is what she told me, “These two wine tastings are the perfect opportunity for people to taste something really beautiful that they wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to taste. For the November 1st tasting, we are featuring Cabernets. There will be some blends involved but the expression is of the Cabernet varietal. These reds are big bold wines, perfect for the fall and winter season, best suited with roasts and chops. Most of the wines will be from California and Washington State.”
Leslie further explained there will be a selection of wines from other parts of the globe including, France, Italy and South America. Featuring an excellent Cabernet based Bordeaux from France, Les Tourelles and another wine from Tuscany, Tignanello made with that region’s prized, deep, purplish Sangiovese grapes. These two blends are included into the tasting because they show the expression of Cabernet in a different way. Les Tourelles has an intense color with a wonderful subtle oak nose with loads of ripe fruit aromas and the Tignanello is sublime and elegant, with layers of fruit, this is a perfect, soft wine, with no hard edges but finishes smoky.
“At the December 1st tasting we’ll be featuring Champagnes and Sparkling wines, perfect for the upcoming holidays. This is a fantastic opportunity to taste some truly outstanding sparkling wines.”
Leslie had me at Champagne. Is it December 1st yet? Need I say more? I hope to see you all there!
