Welcome to our 2016 Late Spring Issue of the South Shore Magazine.
LATE SPRING 2016 PUBLISHERS LETTER
Spring has finally come to the South Shore, where flowers and trees are in full bloom. Everyone’s lawns are greening up, gardens are being planted, birds are singing, spring sports are in full motion and the boats are beginning to fill the area harbors. Summer is on the horizon! Nothing says summer on the South Shore more than boats and the beach!
Our feature and cover article is on Bayside Marine in Duxbury. The Kent family has been outfitting South Shore residents for their boating and waterfront needs since 1949! Bayside Marine is a wonderful, family-run business that has stood the test of time and continually adapts to the changing needs and desires of the South Shore’s boating community. As you know from reading my letters over the last 16 years, Bayside Marine is the type of business that is important to the fabric of our region.
I would also like to extend a warm welcome to another family business that has been around since 1940! Kappy’s Fine Wine and Spirits has just come to the South Shore and has purchased our long time client’s and friend’s business, Marsh’s Wine and Spirits in Norwell. Thank you to the Marsh Family for your many years of support and friendship, and welcome to the family of Kappy’s!

While there is so much to do here year-round on the South Shore, summer is when our region truly shines. Many area restaurants have their patios and decks or fold in their front windows to enjoy the warm temperatures and the ocean breezes. We have our wonderful Boston Harbor Islands National Park, with an extensive ferry system to explore our islands for a day trip or overnight camping, or to tour the nation’s oldest light house, Boston Light (see ad on page 6 for details)! We have so many opportunities for camping and hiking at the many State Parks, including Wompatuck, Blue Hills, Myles Standish and Ames Nowell, just to name a few, as well as properties such as the Trustees of Reservations (Worlds End, Norris Reservation, etc.). Other great ideas include Kayak rentals that are available in several harbors and retailers, or you can easily head to one of our many beaches. Everyone has their favorite, but they all scream South Shore! So, grab your favorite summer drink, perhaps a lobster or clam roll as well, and kick back in the chaise lounge and enjoy the latest issue of South Shore Magazine!
Please don’t forget to tune in or live stream South Shore Live Radio on 95.9 FM WATD to hear the most fun on the FM dial, with Alan Kearney, Erica Ford Sweeney, Lucy Jacobus and yours truly, Monday nights from 8pm-10pm on 95.9 FM, or live stream at southshorelive.com.
On occasion, an oversight gets past me during our final proofing process. I would like to make note of this from our last issue. The cover shot and all photography for the Braintree Cooperative Bank article was shot by Eric Dresser.
