Panopticon Imaging, Inc.
New Location—540 Union Street Rockland—Same Superiority
~ By Maurajane Rogers
540 Union Street, just off VFW drive in Rockland is the address you’ll want to take note of. Panopticon Imaging, Inc., is a provider of remarkable services in everything visual. Suffice it to say if this were a golf game we were talking about there’d be double eagles, aye the ironically named albatross, over hill and over dale. Framing, darkroom services, digital imaging (no matter your level of sophistication), museum quality and even tandem client consulting; Panopticon Imaging Inc. pulls it off with grace and aplomb, coming in well under par each time.
Paul Sneyd has been a busy man, a veritable honeybee, the past several months spent rebuilding and transitioning to the new location of his workshop, now at 540 Union Street in Rockland. The Panopticon crew put their shoulder to the wheel and brought the space from nothing but the guts to the cutting edge. The gleaming gallery slash workshop enables them to take their craft to another level and now showcase both their work and the work of their clients, innovative and discerning artists, as well as the everyday man. And aren’t we all everyday men? Whether professional or rookie, each piece that comes across their table is a treasure and treated as such. From the darkroom to the frame, technology and excellence in trade ensure each job elicits high standards in distinctive and superior quality. From digital to film or recovering images from negatives, and definitely framing of all sizes, colors and textures the crew then safely deposits it all safely behind museum glass, tucked in with archival matting. Acknowledging the different needs of the multilayered client base, there is step-by-step information sharing and appeasement of any project concerns.
A company that is capable of extraordinary work without the pain of an endless wait and the crippling cost is just the added bonus for the consumer. The scope of their services has width and breadth that is attained only through time. And for our benefit, the Master Printer at Panopticon Imaging has put the time in, decades really, so that we may bring our treasures, our own version of art and have it protected and preserved so we can present it in our home like a boss. The bar is set as high for the average consumer as it is for the curator. The everyday man receives museum quality because what Panopticon aims to achieve is preservation of the beauty of memories. Paul Sneyd has adeptly embraced the evolution of technology and for the past thirty-five years has gained an eye and a skill that commands respect. Working with an array of artists over the years is enrichment for the craftsman. A comforting element of the craftsmen of Panopticon is the knowledge that, yes, here is a prime example of the widely accepted (yet seemingly elusive) concept of “find something to do that makes you happy and it will show in your work.”
So what does that translate to for the everyday consumer? There is a place to go (540 Union Street in Rockland, to be precise) where your art, your beautiful memories, whatever it is you determine needs presentation will be cared for and returned to you, transformed into a piece of art. Whether it is the work of your budding artist (even if that artist has yet to exit elementary school), a milestone accomplishment or a ticket stub to that Zeppelin concert in the 60’s. It will get the props it deserves when custom matted and framed at Panopticon Imaging. Bring in old negatives and watch (well, not literally, but you get the picture) Sneyd in the darkroom coax the decades old image forth. At the new address (540 Union Street, to wit) in Rockland, planned gallery viewings and events are things to look forward to with Panopticon Imaging.
