BOTOX® & more at Oral Surgery South
~ By Suzette Martinez Standring
Oral Surgery South in Norwell, long respected for oral and maxillofacial surgery, also excels in performing non-invasive cosmetic procedures, such as Botox®, Juvederm™, dermal fillers, and medical grade chemical peels. Nowadays the desire is to look refreshed, not redone. Such expertise is offered by Dr. Joseph S. Leibovici at Oral Surgery South located at 80 Washington Street, Building N-51 in Norwell. In Quincy, the branch office address is 24 Quincy Avenue.
“Marie,” age 50, is a fitness trainer who specializes in weight loss and nutrition. She plays tennis with her teen daughters and golf is her new passion. Yet one thing troubled her. “I had deep, deep creases between my eyes, and it’s bothered me for a long time. In pictures or whenever I saw myself in a store window, it’s the first thing I noticed,” the Braintree resident said. Botox® diminished the wrinkles by relaxing the muscles, and her face retains full, natural expression. “I look more rested without a drastic change. I feel younger and brighter,” said Marie who treats herself to Botox® once or twice a year.
At age 31, “Marcia” of Weymouth is a project manager for IT security. A line between her eyebrows started to deepen a few years ago. “My mom and dad both have it, which I inherited, and it makes me look angry.” After her first treatment, the crease disappeared in about four days. “It made a huge difference, and it definitely took some years off,” she said, and chooses to be on a quarterly Botox® schedule.
Both Marie and Marcia first met Dr. Joseph S. Leibovici for oral surgery needs when they discovered he also offered cosmetic procedures. Both expressed high praise that can be summed up in Marie’s comments, “I consulted with him and I trusted him. My kids went to him for oral surgery, so I felt like I knew him. His manner is very calm and reassuring. He has a real concern for how you are doing, and was great with following up.”
Dr. Leibovici feels cosmetic procedures are a natural addition to his work. An oral maxillofacial surgeon board certified since 2000, Dr. Leibovici does oral surgery as well as surgical reconstruction in cases of trauma or accidents to the facial region. One of four cofounding doctors at Oral Surgery South, Dr. Leibovici is the partner who, since 2006, has performed non-invasive cosmetic procedures, with a specialty in Botox® Cosmetics, Juvederm™, and dermal fillers. He teaches these techniques as a clinical instructor at Tufts Medical Center, and is an assistant clinical professor at Boston University.
“I’ve always had an affinity to cosmetic and reconstructive procedures during my surgical training. They complement the work I do. Having nice teeth, mouth, lips, and great skin all go together,” said the 43-year-old doctor.
Botox® Cosmetic Treatment reverses the effects of crows feet, worry lines and laugh lines by cosmetic denervation. Botox® is injected into the tiny muscles that create wrinkles, and the procedure is virtually painless. It is used only to treat expression lines, not sagging skin caused by aging. The results can last an average of four months, although research shows that long-term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect.
Other options rejuvenate the skin, such as Juvederm™, an injectable gel to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. A form of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar found in all mammals, it acts like a sponge, attracting and absorbing more than 1,000 times its weight in water and nutrients. The regions of the midface and the lips are common rejuvenation areas, such as the lines and creases around the mouth and lips. A fresher, more youthful appearance is immediate, and the effects may last up to six months or longer. Some of the new Juvederm™ injections already contain a local anesthetic for a more comfortable procedure.
For chemical peels, Dr. Leibovici uses VI Peel manufactured by Vitality Institute Medical Products, a medical-grade chemical peel that nourishes and renews the skin with collagen. Four different peels are customized according to regular, fine lines, acne, or skin discoloration. After an application, actual peeling can last from two to five days.
“Karen” went to Dr. Leibovici for her first-ever chemical peel. She is a fair-skinned brunette and the married mother of two. The Scituate resident works as a non-profit consultant, and wanted a smoother complexion and to minimize her skin pores. “I wanted something very exfoliating after a long summer at the beach in Scituate. I also thought it was time to change up my routine now that I’m 35.”
After the treatment, Karen’s skin was pink and peeling, but after five days, the result was smooth, baby soft skin. Dr. Leibovici made sure the timing of her treatment would work with an important presentation she planned to give. “I was worried about doing it, but he was spot on about everything.” Dr. Leibovici feels cosmetic enhancement is a natural offshoot of his expertise working on the face’s muscular and skeletal structure. “I get a lot of enjoyment making someone look five to ten years younger,” the doctor said.
Right now, Oral Surgery South is offering discounted VI Peels as a seasonal promotion. Make an appointment for a free consultation and to receive details about other special offers.
